Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil premium is a sum of money the school receives for each student who is either in receipt of Free School Meals (FSM) or who has been in receipt of them in the past.

Nationally, the statistics show that students who are in receipt of FSM do less well than their peers in external exams. The aim of this money is to try to close that attainment gap by allowing the school to direct additional resources towards these individuals learning.

How do we use Pupil Premium?

At Somerleyton Primary School we want every child to suceed irrepspective of their background; we want to eliminate the barriers that have prevented pupils with disadvantaged backgrounds from realising their full learning potential. In our pupil premium report we have highlighted how we have used the premium for targeted intervention to accelerate progress in attainment.

We are required to publish how much Pupil Premium money we receive and how we have chosen to spend that money. Ofsted usually require schools to publish the attainment results of those individuals that are in receipt of FSMs to demonstrate the premium is being spent appropriately. Due to the small size of Somerleyton school we are not required to publish such results as this could lead to those individuals being easily identified. This information is shared with the respective parents and with the LEA/Ofsted.

If you believe your child may be entitled to Free school Meals contact the school office.
